Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Health & Safety Manager, the H&S Coordinator is responsible for the application of the site-specific H&S Plan and monitoring operational performance to ensure client and regulatory compliance objectives are successfully achieved. As one of the primary contacts for employees and supervisors, the H&S Coordinator, will provide resources and information to the project including, but not limited to; hazard analysis and risk management, industrial hygiene, compliance auditing, emergency response, inspection, incident investigation, first aid, training, document control, data collection and any other duties assigned.

This is a full-time position for the duration of the project (anticipated completion date of September, 2028) for Construction Demathieu & Bard's joint venture (referred to as Leaside Valley Builders) with EBC on the Don Valley Crossings project.

Work Conditions
The work must be performed in person at various project sites located within the East York region of Toronto for the completion of two multi-span bridges, slope stabilization, underpass rehabilitation and all other associated works (temporary roads, bridges, traffic control, etc.) You may also need to periodically visit to CDB's head office in Peterborough for events and training.

Typical working hours are 7am-5pm weekdays, approximately 40-50 hrs per week. Occasional weekend or night shifts may be required as the project progresses.

Responsibilities
  • Overseeing safety orientation, job site inspections, onsite first aid assessment/treatment and accident/injury reports
  • Monitoring employees and subcontractors on site to ensure compliance to safety procedures and escalate issues to resolution
  • Proactively identifying and preventing hazardous situations and take necessary measures for correction
  • Reviewing of Subcontractors' Pre-Construction safety submittals
  • Reviewing and filing Constructor and Subcontractors' weekly safety submittals
  • Organizing and conducting training programs as required including but not limited to: WHMIS, Fall Protection, Personal Protection Equipment, CPR/First Aid
  • Effectively compiling weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual project health and safety statistics
  • Creating, maintaining, and educating all site staff on a ‘safety first’ culture
  • Promoting a safe work environment for co-workers and clients through a personal commitment to work safe
  • Understanding, embracing, and integrating HSE values into everyday duties and responsibilities
  • Conducting weekly inspections of project work and areas and facilities
  • Accompanying the client and their representatives on twice weekly site inspection
  • Delivering quarterly Safety Stand-down meeting information to constructor and subcontractor personnel
  • Performing any other related duties as assigned by the H&S Manager

Requested skills


Education/ certifications
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification is required
  • A Construction Safety Coordinator Gold Seal certification or CSRP Designation would be considered an asset
  • Experience ISO 45001 – Health and Safety or certificate of Recognition (COR) programs would be considered an asset

Experience and Technical Knowledge
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the civil construction sector or other heavy industrial environment
  • Experience in incident investigation and causal analysis
  • Experience in delivering employee training using multiple delivery methods and media
  • Can delegate and influence others to follow safety rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of occupational safety and health including industrial hygiene and environmental protection programs; as well as proven ability to implement these practices and programs
  • Knowledge of and proven ability to interpret and effectively communicate technical documents such as Job Safety Analysis to workers, visitors, and any other appropriate personnel
  • Understand of OSHA general industry and/or construction standards, EPA regulations and related state statutes/regulations or local ordinances
